Rubber mats for gym floor
Many kindergartens, schools or youth centres at a certain stage also want to offer sports activities to the children under their care. If only they have a large enough room, they often think about the right equipment. However, before any equipment appears in the room, most centres decide to upgrade their flooring so that it is user-friendly. But what exactly does this mean?
Cuts and bruises
Any person who has practiced a sport in life will probably agree that it is relatively easy to get injured, even during a warm-up. Many injuries are caused by falling on a hard surface that does not break the fall in any way. Therefore, the surface in a gym should be softer than the usual hard flooring. Establishments that offer sports activities opt for the so-called safety surfaces in their gyms. These surfaces are usually made of very durable and ideally impact-absorbing SBR or EPDM tiles, which many people know from children’s playgrounds. The tiles are available in many different colours, so you can use them to create bright exercise rooms for preschoolers or more subdued gyms for teenagers or adults.
However, preventing injuries is not the only benefit of rubber mats. They also have non-slip properties, especially important in gyms where sweat or water quite often end up on the floor. The tiles also absorb noise. This is very important, e.g. in schools or community centres, where other non-sporting activities usually take place nearby. The tiles are easy to install. This means that the facility can start sports activities relatively quickly, and there is no need for a lengthy renovation of the sports rooms. Depending on the type of sporting activity, thinner or thicker tiles can be chosen and adapted to the required critical fall height, or HIC value.
